Children in Hospital
Should your child require admission into hospital to undergo an intervention, you are kindly requested to bring him/her in for a pre-admission visit. This visit is intended to familiarize the child with the hospital and with some of the staff who will be taking care of him/her.
Saint James Hospital places a lot of importance on ensuring that children feel safe and comfortable for the length of their stay. We are also aware that parents will worry more about their children if they are separated from them. Therefore, our staff is always willing to arrange for either parent to stay overnight in your child’s room.
On the ward, your child will be cared for by a registered nurse. You may rest assured that the staff who will be looking after your child in the operating theatre and recovery room have received additional training in the care of children.
For the comfort of both the child and the parent, you will be allowed to accompany your child into the operating theatre, until he/she is settled down. You will also be called to accompany your child back from the recovery area to the ward.
The Saint James Hospital Catering Services has developed a children’s menu. However, should your child desire something that is not listed thereon, we will try our best to provide it.
Although we do provide a range of toys for the children’s distraction from their woes, we encourage your child to bring one or two of their own favourite toys or comforters, as these provide them with an additional sense of familiarilty and comfort, and thus aid towards a speedier recovery.
